- Tragic Damage -
When the dog chases the cat and the upright gets bumped and falls
into the piano then, well, that's life. Anything is repairable, the only
question is whether the cost of the repair exceeds the value of the
instrument. Don't fear, the repairs shown were made very affordably
and earned loyal customers.
I don't remember the exact circumstances, but this bass had
something similar happen to it.
The first step was making the glue repair.
Then dowels were hidden under the tuner key to add support to the
weakened and cracked pegbox on the E side so that it would
hold under the stress of the string tension that would be applied
to it.
Another bass that cracked in this area was best repaired by placing
a short bolt. In this case, I used an old nickel to plug the hole
required for the repair.
Nathan and me now refer to this as the "Nickelback" bass -
Below is an example of "oops, my fingerboard fell off".
Whatever got broken, give me a call or shoot me an email and we can
make arrangements for the appropriate repair.
